Holding Conferences and Similar Events in Herne

Towns and cities in the Ruhr are so close together that there appear to be no distinct boundaries between them. The selection of a conference location in the Ruhr is therefore not a problem. Because wherever you hold your event, delegates will never be far away from the action: be it a cultural or sporting event or an exclusive restaurant. Each city has its own unique character, its own distinctive offerings. Visitors to Herne will find: a fantastic cultural programme in the Flottmann-Hallen, Germany’s most cutting-edge museum for archaeology, the highly innovative architecture of Mont-Cenis Academy, and all the thrills and spills of the biggest funfair in the land.

If you are looking for medium-sized conference facilities with state-of-the-art presentation equipment at a fair price and if you’re interested in an entertaining social and cultural programme, you should definitely consider holding your event in the Ruhr region: namely in Herne.

Flottmann-Hallen

Where rotary hammer drills for the region’s coal mines were made until the early 1980s, the Flottmann-Hallen have since been transformed into a centre for alternative culture. Dance theatre and modern art, circus cabaret and theatre, performance and contemporary music culture are presented here with much success. Many performers begin their careers here, e.g., at the cabaret talent competition “Tegtmeiers Erben” which takes place every two years as a tribute to the unforgotten Jürgen von Manger. And of course, the visual artist has an eye for the fine Jugendstil architecture of the building: Even sculptures weighing several tons and large-scale installations show to advantage here.

Rooms in the Herne Innovation Centre

Innovationszentrum Herne (Herne Innovation Centre)

Herne Innovation Centre, which was set up in 1996 as a project of the Emscher Park International Building Exhibition, is the "youngest" innovation and start-up centre in Herne, and from the beginning it has helped businesses both to start up and to expand. Coordination is in the hands of Innovations- und Gründerzentrum Herne GmbH (Herne Innovation and Start-up Centre), an organization which complements the advisory services of Herne’s Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft (Herne Business Development Agency). The attractive, but highly functional building has a floor space of 6,000 square metres spread over two levels and five wings. Consistent with the idea of "working in the park", the grounds and façade have been intensively "greened". On working days, reception and switchboard are open for ten hours, the in-house cafeteria provides a wide range of drinks and snacks, and there are free parking facilities for over 150 vehicles. The Innovation Centre is 800 metres from the Herne-Baukau exit of the A 42 motorway.

Mont-Cenis Academy in Sodingen

Mont-Cenis Academy

The Mont-Cenis Academy now stands where coal was mined up to 1978. Under the impressive glass roof is the Further Education Institute of North Rhine-Westphalia and a part of Herne’s municipal administration. As a showpiece of the “Emscher Park International Building Exhibition”, the Academy has enjoyed international fame since it was completed in 1999. It has the world’s largest roof-integrated solar power generator. A second masterpiece of energy technology also reminds us of the region’s mining heritage: the block-type thermal power station which makes eco-friendly use of the huge quantities of methane gas found in the disused mines.
