Kompatibilität & Barrierefreiheit

New design of www.herne.de

Dear users of www.herne.de,

since 14 July 2006 the pages of www.herne.de are designed in a new - as barrier-free as possible - style, based on the latest Internet standards. Appearance and content are seperated through the use of so-called cascading style sheets.

What is "accessible" web design?

Barrier-free web design - sometimes also called accessibility or Accessibility - is the art to constuct Web pages that everyone can use and read.

In webdesign it is often not taken into account that many people have physical limitations. Certain programming techniques build up "barriers" instead supporting access to the Internet. This can be a lack of texts to describe graphics, an unfortunate choice of color combinations, unclear structured websites, not operable navigation mechanisms, for example.
